From off-road exploration and kayaking along the Nestos River to hiking through ancient caves, tasting local wines and cooking with farmers at the foot of Mount Paggaio, this itinerary showcases a lesser-known side of Greece… wild, welcoming and wonderfully diverse. Welcome to Greece!
Arrive at Thessaloniki International Airport, where you will meet your local assistant before travelling north-east to the beautiful harbour town of Kavala. After checking into your hotel, enjoy a relaxed welcome dinner followed by an informal orientation to the city, introducing you to Kavala’s history, character and the adventure ahead.
Elatia Forest, Nestos River Views & 4×4 Exploration
Today is devoted to exploring the natural beauty of northern Greece. Travelling by 4×4 jeeps, you will head towards the spectacular Nestos River, stopping at panoramic viewpoints to take in the dramatic scenery below.
Continue to the lush Elatia Forest, where a gentle, guided hike leads you through waterfalls, wooden bridges and a remarkable variety of tree species. Deep in the forest, enjoy a relaxed brunch in nature, sampling local products accompanied by Dramian wine.
Return to Kavala at approximately 17:00, with the evening free to relax.
Kavala Old Town & Ancient Philippi
After breakfast, meet your guide for a half-day walking tour of Kavala. Explore the atmospheric old town, wander through its historic streets and visit the impressive Castle of Kavala, learning about the city’s layered past.
The tour continues to the nearby archaeological site of Philippi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where ancient ruins reveal stories of Roman, Byzantine and early Christian history.
The afternoon is free to explore Kavala at your own pace.
Kayaking Adventure on the Nestos River
After breakfast, travel to Stavroupoli, the starting point for today’s kayaking experience on the Nestos River. Following a short safety briefing, begin paddling through one of the region’s most scenic river landscapes.
Along the way, enjoy a picnic on the riverbanks, opportunities for swimming in the refreshing waters, and time to observe the unique flora and fauna that thrive in this protected environment.
Return to Kavala before evening, with time to unwind after an active day.
Free Day in Kavala
Today is free to relax or explore Kavala independently. You may choose to stroll along the waterfront, enjoy a leisurely lunch by the sea, visit local shops or simply rest and enjoy the rhythm of this charming northern Greek town.
Alistrati Cave & Aggitis Gorge
After breakfast, set out by 4×4 jeep towards the impressive Alistrati Cave, accompanied by your local assistant. Enjoy a guided visit inside the cave, learning about its formation, history and the wider significance of caves in Greece.
Continue to the nearby Aggitis Gorge, where you will be treated to traditional Greek coffee along with local bites, pies and fresh fruit. A short hike allows you to experience the gorge’s dramatic natural setting before returning to Kavala at around 15:00.
The evening is free to enjoy at leisure.
Local Farm Visit and Cooking Experience
After breakfast, travel to the foothills of Mount Paggaio to visit Moustheni Goat Farm. Meet the welcoming owner, Apostolos, who will guide you through the farm and explain the process of milk and cheese production.
Enjoy a cheese tasting accompanied by local wine before taking part in a demonstration of preparing a traditional regional dish. Guests are welcome to join in, making this a relaxed and social experience rather than a formal class.
Lunch is enjoyed in nature, surrounded by the rural landscape. Return to Kavala in the afternoon, with free time before gathering in the evening for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant, celebrating the journey shared.
Departure
After breakfast, depart Kavala and transfer back to Thessaloniki International Airport for your return flight home.

You will spend seven nights in Kavala at a 4-star hotel. Your hotel is ideally located near the harbour, the hotel offers comfortable accommodation, daily breakfast and an excellent base from which to explore northern Greece. Please note a €10 charge is required per night per room, payable locally at the hotel.

You can arrive at Thessaloniki International Airport on any flight, but our transfers are matched to this schedule, so you will have to wait at the airport until departure, and on the return leg, you will need to make sure it suits the above transfers. You will need to arrive by midday due to the tour itinerary.
