Day 1: Welcome to Tunisia
Upon your arrival at Tunis-Carthage International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by your local guide and transferred to your accomodation nestled within the enchanting Tunis Medina. After check-in, take some time to relac and settle into your surroundings before enjoying a delicious welcome dinner.
Day 2: Exploring the capital
Today begins with a visit to th3e hsitoric heart of Tunis – the bustling Medina. Lose yourself in the winding alleys filled with colourful market stalls, artisan shops, and hidden architectural gems. after a leisurely lunch in the city, the journey continues to the legendary ruins of Carthage. Once a powerful rival to Rome, Carthage is now a place of haunting beauty, where you can wander through ancient Roman villas and the famed Antonine Baths. The day ends in the picturesque village of Sidi Bou Said, with its iconic blue and white buildings, cobblestone streets, and breathtaking views over the Mediterranean.
Day 3: From sacred Kairouan to the Oasis of Tozeur
Departing Tunis, travel south to Kairouan, Tunisia’s spirital centre and one of Islam’s holiest cities. Visit the magnificant Grand Mosque and the Mausoleum of a Berber Saint, both fine examples of early Islamic architecture. After lunch in Kairouan, continue to the oasis town fo Gafsa before arriving in Tozeur. Famour for its lush palm groves and high-quality dates, Tozeur’s old town reveals a rich heritage of earth-brick architecture. You will visit the Eden Palm Ecomuseum, offering insights into traditional palm cultivation and artisanal date-based pastries.
Day 4: Oasis Adventures
This morning, venture into the stunning mountain oases surrounding Tozeur, including the dramatic waterfalls of Tamerza and the deep canyons of Chebika and Mides. These remote Berber villages boast incredible natural beauty and ancient heritage. After lunch back in Tozeur, the journey continues across the shimmering salt flats of Chott El Jerid, a surreal landscape often dotted with mirages. By late afternoon, arrive in Douz, affectionately known as the “Gateway to the Sahara”. Optional sunset camel rides across the dunes await for those seeking a true desert experience.
Day 5: Dessert Oasis
Begin the day with a journey to the remote desert oasis of Ksar Ghilane, an extraordinary spot where a hot spring bubbles up in the midst of endless dunes. From here, continue to Matmata, known for its fascinating underground dwellings, still inhabitited by Berber families. Enjoy lunch at the beautifully situated Diar El Barbar Hotel before contintuing to the island for Djerba. Upon arrival check in for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Island life and Coastal cities
After breakfast, explore the island of Djerba, including a visit to the lively town of Houmt Souk with its markets and quaint squares. You’ll also stop at the village of Guella, renowned for its traditional pottery. Later, travel north via Gabes, where a visit to the vibrant spice market adds a sensory delight to the day. Day 7: Roman glory and Seaside sites
Today, you will visit some of Tunisia’s most impressive historical and coastal hgihlights. Travel onwards to Monastir to explore the imposing Ribat, a coastal fortress steeped in history. After lunch in the either Monastir or Sousse, visit the Sousse mosaic museum, followed by a stroll through the medina and the marina at Port El Kantaoui. In the evening, head to Hammamet, a lively seaside resort, and check in for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 8: Farewell Tunisia
After breakfast, it is time to say goodbye to Tunisia. You will be transferred from Hammamet to Tunis Airport for your return flight, bringing with you memories of a remarkable journey through ancient cities, serenes oasis, and unforgettable landscapes.
